JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Group Fitness Coordinator, the Group Fitness Instructor will design and instruct safe and effective group fitness classes for members of all fitness levels and ages. The Group Fitness Instructor will also act as a liaison between members and the Group Fitness Coordinator. The Instructor will keep the Group Fitness Coordinator informed of all problems and concerns. The H-F Park District’s mission statement is “to enhance the quality of life through diverse recreational opportunities, facilities and parks while caring for the environment”.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide outstanding customer service to our internal and external guests by maintaining a positive, empathetic and professional attitude at all times.
- Instruct class.
- Represent RFC in a positive manner.
- Keep Group Fitness Coordinator Informed
- Communicate with students, and take an interest in them.
- Take attendance.
- Prepare class music and routine.
- Be punctual.
- Enforce Group Fitness Class policies.
- Attend Group Fitness meetings.
- Keep certifications current.
- Keep track of hours; clock in and out for each class.
- Change music and routines regularly.
- Find substitutes if unable to teach, inform Group Fitness Coordinator.
- Attend clinics and visit other classes.
- Adhere to the policies and procedures as outlined in the Safety Manual, Policy and Procedures and Employee Manual.
- Other related job duties as assigned.
COGNITIVE SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Ability to relate to student’s needs,
- Ability to modify exercises or offer alternatives
- Ability to recognize participants and their ability levels.
- Ability to recognize situations that require assistance and respond appropriately.
JOB SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Monitor participants’ exertion levels.
- Answer basic anatomy and physiology questions from participants.
- Use and demonstrate fitness equipment
- Adapt to unexpected situations with minimal disruption to class.
- Motivate participants.
- Teach safe, fun and motivating classes.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- National certification current in ACE, AFAA, NASM, ACSM or Suspension Training.
- At least 20 years of age.
- Minimum 1 year teaching experience preferred.
- Current CPR Certification.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
STANDING: Must be able to dance, jump
SITTING: Required to sit on floor for toning work
WALKING: Must walk to conduct class
LIFTING: Required to lift weights to teach class
STOOPING: Must stoop to teach class
REACHING: Required to reach in class
CLIMBING: Required to use "step" in class
VERBAL: Must converse with class
VISION: Must be able to watch students
SWIMMING: All Aqua instructors must be able to swim
